I used to drink coffee at Starbucks. That was before I knew anything about coffee.

I’m not trying to diminish any of you Starbucks lovers out there, but I guess it’s suffice to say that Starbucks has a long way to go when it comes to the quality of their beans, and that has caused me to seek out home espresso machines, local coffee roastery’s and a better coffee experience.

But the problem was, I absolutely LOVE Starbucks’ “Pumpkin Spice Latte”.

Now, sure you can buy the same syrup that Starbucks uses in their famous pumpkin spice lattes, but I really hate spending money on something full of artificial flavours and perservatives… especially when I can make it myself.

So to mark the beginning of fall I have done some testing and created my very own pumpkin spice latte syrup… and you know what?

It’s amazing.

Here’s the recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup of pureed pumpkin
  • 1 Tsp. Fresh ground nutmeg
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 vanilla bean
  • 5 cloves
  • 2 cups water
  • 4 cups granulated sugar

Take all of the ingredients and put them in a medium sauce pan over medium heat.

Simmer this mixture while stirring until thick (about 10-15 minutes) and strain into a glass bottle (dollar stores are great for these).

DONE!

That was easy. Now just put about a tablespoon into your espresso before adding your steamed milk and you’ve got yourself an even more awesome pumpkin spice latte!
